“There! I can see it, upon the hill!”
The world around stood completely still.
A long and slim pathway laid out in stone,
slithered up to a castle carved from bone.
Countless victims had nearby been slain,
but rain had washed away each stain.
We had already crossed a vast, red river,
and none who saw it failed to shiver.
We climbed tirelessly, toward the top,
and never once thought we should stop.
Both searched for the very same thing,
that we had lost one tragic spring.
A grim memory filled with tears and blood.
Children were buried in sorrow and mud.
Oh, we completely lost our path.
Our hearts were heavy, full of wrath.
Together we walked, hand in hand.
Stepped into the most somber land;
a cursed place unfit for any to be,
a place no child should ever see.
But that is why we had to go,
to a castle only a few would know.
Stumbling forward to regain what we lost,
vowing to find it at any cost.
Never would we stop the fight,
for inside was our ray of light.

I remember watching a Youtube music-video by Adrian von Ziegler, where both the haunting music and background image inspired me to write this dark piece. You can find the video here.
